Zamyla has trained with internationally renowned salsa and bachata dancers and has taught in the United States and Canada, focusing on body movement, lead-follow technique, connection, and musicality. She first began running a Queer Summer Bachata series in 2023 and has been part of Queer Afro-Latin Dance Vancouver since its inception.
Zamyla is passionate about removing gender norms and other harmful mindsets from the dance floor.
Hanna has trained and competed nationally in Canada, emphasizing connection and musicality in her teaching practice. Outside of teaching, she can be found genre-hopping into hustle, kizomba, and traditional bachata. She loves to explore and learn new forms of movement, frequently embarking on in-depth explorations of the music she dances to.
Hanna loves sharing the joy of Afro-Latin dance through safe and creative dance spaces.
Arthur first began writing about their experiences learning salsa from a queer perspective, exploring what it means to find belonging and joy in spaces that often feel heteronormative. Through sharing these reflections, they connected with others who shared a similar vision for more inclusive dance spaces—eventually bringing together the team that created QALDV and the Queero events. Arthur continues to guide the organization with a focus on community, care, and cultural connection through dance.
Rachelle is one of the founding members of QALDV. She’s often the first friendly face you’ll see at our events, welcoming guests and helping create an inclusive and organized space at our front desk. Beyond events, she brings her thoughtfulness and attention to detail to her role as our board secretary, helping ensure the organization runs smoothly and stays connected to our community values.
